Replate's Response to COVID-19

How Replate is addressing the COVID-19 Public Health Crisis

It’s no secret that the world is uncharted territory right now. Replate has been hard at work to ensure the continued fulfillment of two top priorities:

  1. Continue to provide food to the clients of our recipient organizations.

  2. Continue to utilize our fee-for-service model to pay our contracted Food Rescuers fair, living wages.

How are we looking to achieve these goals?

First: We are leveraging our existing partnership with DoorDash to subsidize pickups from large enterprise restaurants that also have an existing relationship with DoorDash. These restaurants can donate their surplus through our new “For Restaurants” product expansion. Restaurants can choose to donate on two different tiers: 1 to 3 individual meals, or up to 10 trays of food. See more details on our pricing page

Next: As we outlined in more detail in last week’s blog we have come up with a way for our usual food donor partners whose offices have closed  (as well as any individual) to continue to give back to their community. This approach also has an exciting third prong - supporting local restaurants! Here’s how it works - place a to-go order directly with your favorite restaurant. Then create a Replate account (or log in to your existing account), and set a Replate pickup at the restaurant from which you ordered. From there, one of our Food Rescuers will be dispatched to pickup the order from said favorite restaurant, and bring it to one of our recipient partners.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly: We’re expanding our normal B2B offering to include a B2C offering. We are particularly well-positioned to do this because of the range of nonprofit partners we have. We work with shelters, soup kitchens, job training organizations, after school programs, senior centers, and more. Many of our partners have had to shut their doors in order to protect those that have been encouraged not to leave their homes at all, even to grocery shop. Many of them can’t afford enough food to provide for themselves or their family. So we are bringing the food to them. We are leveraging our recipient partners to reach out to their clientele, to see who would benefit from direct home delivery. All of our pickups and donations are now, of course, contactless. We will meet the people where they are for as long as they need us.*

Your support means everything - to us yes, but also to those in communities across the country who are experiencing increased levels of food insecurity, newfound experiences of food insecurity, and extreme isolation. The world looks different today than we may have been able to imagine just a month ago, but for those of us who are able to feel fear in comfort, there are those for whom the economic and health consequences of this pandemic are immediately tangible. Let’s work together to support them in every way we can.

*We are still delivering donations directly to recipient organizations that remain open.
