Replate adds Golden State Warriors to the Roster!
The Golden State Warriors are always champions in the Bay Area, and now they’re showing even more support to their community through a new partnership…with Replate!
This month, we officially kicked off “Pass the Plate,” a food recovery initiative at Chase Center spearheaded by the Warriors, Replate, and DoorDash. Surplus food at the stadium will be donated to local organizations, helping to feed those in need and prevent waste.
In term, we’ll collectively reduce our environmental imprint, and hopefully inspire others to take up the charge.
“Whether it be a practice day or a game day, it’s great to know the food we prepare goes to the athletes of this basketball team, but to know that we don’t waste our food, that just makes my job extra special,” says Bert Ortiz Jr., Director of Kitchen Operations for the Warriors. “[It] allows me to know what I do in the kitchen goes beyond what I see on the basketball court.”
Each week, Replate will be working with DoorDash to retrieve a wide array of prepared, nutritious meals from Chase Center, and bring those to nearby nonprofits serving those facing food insecurity. As of 2020, around 870,000 people in the Bay Area experienced hunger, more than 1 out of every 10 people.
Not only that, California recently enacted SB 1383, a new mandate requiring stadiums and other businesses to donate edible surplus food. The legislation intends to generate group action across the state in order to reduce overall organic waste by 50% in the coming years.
“It’s a great conversation for our fans to understand how the Warriors, and Chase Center specifically, partnered with DoorDash and Replate on this initiative, and what we’re trying to do,” Andre Iguodala, NBA star and forward for the Warriors, points out. “Just the conversation alone will spread across this great community of Warriors fans, and in turn, it might spark even one person to start thinking about what sustainability means.”
Slam dunk!
